11 Oct Gonnae No Tae That!
Gonnae no dae that!
If you are planning your wedding, it’s always a good idea to give some thought to how your guests will know where they’re sitting during the Ceremony.
Often couples will say something like, “We’d like 2 rows reserved for family and then the remaining guests can sit anywhere”, and then I or the venue will put some lovely reserved signs on the front 2 rows. Sounds straightforward, right?
Eh, Naw!
What actually happens is (and I’ve seen this again and again hence this post), that your guests come in and because I’m standing up the front they’ll ask me (who doesn’t know them from Adam) where they should sit. I then say, “the front 2 rows are for family blah blah blah” and then it starts….
“I’m an aunt so that must mean I can sit at the front”
“We’re cousins, I think she’d want us in the front row”
“I’m the bride’s mum’s pal, but she’s always called me auntie so that must mean me”
“Get your arse over, I’m the bride’s auntie’s husband’s sister’s next door neighbours cleaner”!
Now you’re probably thinking I’m being a tad over dramatic, but at a recent Ceremony where the couple said “It’s ok we’ll let people know where they’re sitting”, there was almost a fallout over people wanting to sit at the front. So much so that there were no seats left at the front for the bridal party to sit during the ceremony. And just a few days ago where the scenario was the same, two ladies asked me where they were to sit, and when I said “On yer arse?” they didn’t seem too happy! HaHa! Jokes! When I said I didn’t know, they walked away and I heard them say, “I think that’s terrible she doesn’t even know where people are sitting!”
Gonnae no dae that!
Lindyloo is no an usher. I’ve got enough to dae withoot having to guide folk to their seats! I’m more than happy to put put reserved signs, but honestly it’s so much easier (and nicer) if you put name tags on the chairs. And there’s so many lovely, quirky styles you can get to add to the beauty of the occasion.
And the other thing is that I work really hard before a Ceremony to try and create the right energy for you and your guests, and the last thing your Ceremony needs is people getting stressed or annoyed (especially with me!) about where they’re sitting.
So there you have it. Leave nothing to chance and make sure the right bum is on every seat!
